5 Self-Defense Tactics Every Woman Should Know

2020 was a year filled with an extreme amount of confusion and insecurity.   Early reports indicate that murders, violent crimes, property crimes, sexual attacks, and burglaries continue to rise from previous years. Our experts at Security Pro USA want to offer 5 self-defense ideas women can employ to keep themselves safe.

  1. Look unapproachable.
  • The very best way to protect yourself from a random attack is to look like a hard target. Walk with your head up and eyes focused. Do not walk with your hands in your pockets.
  •  Do not walk alone if at all possible. Use the buddy system, especially at night. If you know you will be returning to your car after dark, park in a well lighted or busy area.
  • Do not talk on your cell phone while walking at night. It causes you to be distracted. Be aware of your surroundings and prepared to protect yourself.
  • If you are attacked, scream and fight, even if the attacker is armed. Kick him in the groin, scratch his face, jab him in the eye, hit him in the nose with the heel of your hand. That scratch will provide DNA that can help track him down. If you can get him down, run for help.
  1. Get training.
  • Look for Self-Defense for Women classes to take. They will teach you how to protect yourself.
  • If you decide to get any of the devices listed below, you will need training for some of them. An attack is no time to discover that you cannot protect yourself.
  1.  Flashlight and Tactical Pen
  • You should always have a flashlight when out at night.
  • The Tactical Pen looks like a normal pen, but it is made for stabbing. It will help you protect yourself if the attacker grabs you. It is only effective if the neck, eye, or other soft places are available.
  1. Pepper Spray and Taser/Stun Gun
  • Pepper spray is a non-lethal tool that inflicts pain and discomfort when discharged in the offender’s face. Most sprays will reach 8 to 12 feet. The spray will not do anything if sprayed anywhere except the face.
  •

  • Stun Guns have become very popular as items used as self-defense for women. To use a stun gun, you will need to be in physical contact with the attacker.  It works by attacking the offender’s nervous system. If you can keep the prongs in contact with the attacker for 3 seconds, you should be able to run away.
    • The Taser works the same way as the stun gun, except that you can shoot the electrical current up to 8 to 10 feet so you do not have to come into contact with the offender. The gun shoots out electrical probes that can penetrate clothes. The electric shock paralyzes the attacker. Again, this allows you time to run or get help.
    1. Firearms
    • Many women resort to handguns for protection. If you feel you need to go to this level to protect yourself, you should consult a reputable gun store. The people there will help you complete the paperwork for your state. Please be sure to take advantage of any training they recommend. Do not carry a gun without firearm training, as it can be very dangerous for you and anyone around you.
If you have been attacked, threatened, or just feel nervous when you are out after dark, you should consider some of the tactics listed here.
