Frequently asked questions

What is a tactical vest?

A tactical vest is a heavy-duty garment designed to provide body protection and convenient access to gear and tools for military, law enforcement, and outdoor enthusiasts. These vests often feature multiple pockets and pouches to carry ammunition, radios, flashlights, and other essential equipment. Click here to see our collection of tactical vests.

Are tactical vests bulletproof?

Tactical vests themselves are not inherently bulletproof. However, many are designed to accommodate ballistic plates or inserts that can provide bullet-resistant protection. It's important to distinguish between standard tactical vests and those specifically made to hold armor plates for ballistic protection.

How do I choose the right size tactical vest?

Choosing the right size tactical vest involves measuring your chest and waist and comparing these measurements to the manufacturer's sizing chart. A properly fitted vest should be snug yet comfortable, allowing full range of motion without shifting position. Check out our plate for a guide to plate carrier fitment here.

How do I customize a Tactical Vest?

Check out our guide on our blog on how to customize a tactical vest here.

Can civilians buy tactical vests?

Yes, civilians can buy tactical vests. While certain types, particularly those designed for ballistic protection, may have purchasing restrictions in some areas, non-armored tactical vests are widely available for purchase by civilians. Click here to see our collection of tactical vests.

How much does a tactical vest weigh?

The weight of a tactical vest can vary widely depending on its design, material, and whether it includes ballistic protection. A basic unloaded tactical vest might weigh between 1.5 to 3 pounds, while vests equipped with plates and gear can weigh significantly more.

What materials are tactical vests made from?

Tactical vests are commonly made from high-strength, durable materials like nylon, polyester, and Cordura. Ballistic vests incorporate layers of Kevlar, Twaron, or other fibers designed to offer protection against projectiles. Click here to see our collection of tactical vests.

How do I clean and maintain my tactical vest?

Cleaning and maintaining a tactical vest involves removing all gear and plates, gently washing the vest with mild soap and water by hand, and allowing it to air dry. Avoid harsh chemicals and machine washing, as these can degrade the materials.

Can tactical vests stop knife attacks?

Standard tactical vests without specific stab or spike protection are not designed to stop knife attacks. Vests that offer stab or spike protection are specially constructed with materials capable of resisting puncture forces.

What are the best tactical vests for airsoft?

The best tactical vests for airsoft are those that offer durability, comfort, and ample storage for airsoft gear. Look for vests with adjustable sizing, breathable materials, and MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) webbing for customization. Check out our stock here.

Are tactical vests adjustable?

Yes, most tactical vests are adjustable. They typically feature side straps and shoulder adjusters to accommodate different body sizes and layers of clothing, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. Check out our guide on how to adjust a tactical vest here

What is MOLLE on a tactical vest?

MOLLE, which stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, is a system of webbing loops sewn onto the vest, allowing for the attachment of various pouches, accessories, and modular gear, providing customization and flexibility in arranging equipment.

How do I attach gear to a tactical vest?

Gear is attached to a tactical vest using the MOLLE system, Velcro, or pouches. For MOLLE attachments, weave the straps of the accessory through the webbing on the vest and secure them in place, ensuring a tight and secure fit. Check out our guide on our blog on how to customize a tactical vest here.

Can I travel with a tactical vest?

Traveling with a tactical vest is generally permitted, but it's essential to check airline and local regulations, especially if the vest is designed to carry ballistic protection. Always declare the vest when traveling and ensure it complies with transport and destination laws. Check out our guide on how to travel with body armor here.
